Your privacy matters to us. Rootling is designed to keep your data safe, private, and under your control. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data You Provide
Rootling stores the following data that you create within the app:
- Propagation entries — plant name, species, method, dates, status, and notes
- Photos — images you take or import for your propagation journal
- Growth measurements — journal entries with notes, photos, and date stamps
- Reminders — custom notification schedules you set
All of this data is stored locally on your device and, if you opt in, synced via Apple iCloud.
1.2 Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number
- We do not track your location beyond what you optionally allow for weather features
- We do not collect analytics, usage data, or behavioral information
- We do not use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs
1.3 Location Data
If you enable the weather feature, Rootling requests access to your approximate location solely to fetch local weather data from Apple's WeatherKit service. Your location is never stored, transmitted to our servers, or shared with third parties.
1.4 Photo Library Access
Rootling requests access to your photo library only when you choose to add photos to a propagation entry. Photos are stored locally on your device (and optionally in iCloud). We never access, upload, or share your photos.
2. iCloud Sync
If you enable iCloud sync in Settings, your propagation data is synced across your devices using Apple's CloudKit framework. This data is:
- Stored in your private iCloud container — only you can access it
- Encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy
We have no access to your iCloud data.
3. In-App Purchases
Rootling offers optional premium features via in-app purchases processed by Apple's App Store. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple using StoreKit 2. We do not collect or store any payment information.
4. Third-Party Services
Rootling integrates with the following Apple services only:
- Apple WeatherKit — for local weather data (optional)
- Apple CloudKit / iCloud — for data sync (optional)
- Apple StoreKit 2 — for in-app purchases
- Apple WidgetKit — for the Home Screen widget (uses App Groups to share data locally)
We do not integrate with any advertising networks, social media platforms, or third-party analytics services.
5. Data Storage & Security
All app data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework. When iCloud sync is enabled, data is additionally stored in your private iCloud container with Apple's built-in encryption.
We do not operate any servers. Your data never passes through our infrastructure.
6. Children's Privacy
Rootling does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app is suitable for all ages and does not require any personal data to function.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device (and optionally in iCloud):
- Delete the app to remove all local data
- Disable iCloud sync and delete from iCloud via Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage to remove cloud data
We retain no data on any server, so there is nothing for us to delete on our end.
8. Your Rights
You have full control over your data at all times. You can:
- Export your data within the app
- Delete individual entries or all data
- Disable iCloud sync at any time
- Revoke location or photo permissions via iOS Settings
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
