Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why does Focusledger need Accessibility permission?Accessibility permission allows Focusledger to see which app is in the foreground and read window titles. This is essential for accurate time tracking. We NEVER log keystrokes or capture sensitive content - only app names and window titles.
-
Is my data uploaded to the cloud? No! All your productivity data is stored locally on your Mac in an encrypted database. We have no servers that receive your data. Even AI analysis happens on-device using Apple Intelligence.
-
Can I exclude certain apps from tracking?Yes! Go to Settings → Privacy & Exclusions → Excluded Apps. Add any apps you don't want tracked. Common choices include password managers, messaging apps, or personal browsers.
-
How do I export my data?Go to Settings → Data Management → Export Data. Choose your format (JSON, CSV, PDF, or HTML) and date range. Your complete productivity history will be exported to the location you choose.
-
When will Focusledger Lite be available?Focusledger Lite is coming soon. It will offer a streamlined feature set for getting started, while Focusledger includes the full tracking and analytics experience.
-
Can I use Focusledger on multiple Macs?Yes. App Store purchases are available on all Macs signed into your Apple ID. Data is stored locally on each Mac and is not synced between devices.
-
How accurate is the time tracking?Focusledger checks the active app every 5 seconds and uses advanced heuristics to detect idle time. Activities under 30 seconds in a single app are typically grouped together for cleaner data.
-
Does Focusledger affect my Mac's performance? No. Focusledger uses minimal resources - typically less than 0.1% CPU and under 50MB RAM. The app is optimized for efficiency and runs silently in the background.
Troubleshooting
⚠️ Tracking Not Working
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Find Focusledger in the list and ensure it's enabled
- If already enabled, toggle it off and on again
- Restart Focusledger from the menu bar icon
- If issues persist, try restarting your Mac
⚠️ Screenshots Not Capturing
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording
- Ensure Focusledger has screen recording permission
- Check Settings → Screenshots to verify feature is enabled
- Screenshots only capture during active work, not idle time
⚠️ AI Insights Not Appearing
- AI features require macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence
- Ensure Apple Intelligence is enabled in System Settings
- You need at least 3 days of tracking data for AI insights
- AI analysis runs during idle periods to preserve performance
⚠️ Subscription Not Recognized
- Ensure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for purchase
- Go to App Store → Account → Subscriptions to verify status
- In Focusledger: Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases
- Restart the app after restoring
